Ah yes, the internet. It would have to be one of the most important tools of the modern age. It’s growth has been exponential. Today, over 40% of the worlds population has an internet connection, that’s over 3 billion people. Now compare that back to 1995 when it was under 1%. In New Zealand alone, 89% of the population uses the internet.
Now, with the internet being such a crucial tool for our daily lives, we can hardly think of a time before it and how people managed to get by without it. But I’m sure there are still people who remember back to the time before the first thing we did in the morning was check social media, emails and watch our favourite cat gifs.
Some of the most successful people in the world have made their fortune and success on the backs of the internet, the likes of Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Larry Page (Google), Jeff Bezos (Amazon) are a few names to come to mind. With these heavy hitters of the online entrepreneur scene creating multi billion companies, who would have to think that whoever invented the internet would have to be a billion, trillionaire. But who actually invented the internet? We never hear about this person in the media? Or maybe it wasn’t a singular person or company? Well, the good folks over at Kurzgesagt, have made a great animated, explanation of just how it came to be. Check it out below.
